Sent Saturday, June 13, 2020 What do nerd fights have to do with your profits? In a word: EVERYTHING And to prove it, let me recite a tale I once heard told by a self-avowed nerd. See, this self-avowed nerd was so low on the "nerd totem pole" that he was picked on and bullied by other nerds. He was basically like the youngest child in a big family. Everyone was able to take out their frustrations of being picked on by beating him up. And the pecking order ended with him. It became so bad, that one day he simply snapped and fought back. What happened? Did he vanquish the higher-status nerd and claim victory? Did he climb the nerd totem pole to become King of all nerds? Did he defeat the villain, get the girl, and save the world at nuclear midnight? The answer is nay. Quite the opposite actually. When he began to stick up for himself and fight back against the slightly less nerdy nerd that was bullying him, an onlooking "cool kid", who was not a nerd but a bully, snorted and exclaimed: "nerd fight" Which completely took the air out of our young hero's tires. And legend has it, that to this day he hasn't fought back since. So what's the moral? Well, for one thing, kids are cruel. There's no getting around it. But that insight will hardly add any extra shekels to your already nerdy bank account. But there's another lesson here. And while potentially offensive to the salty dingles out there, it is a lesson that will make ALL your selling jobs much easier. And that lesson boils down to: Status Status is everywhere. And it's very important. It doesn't matter if it's monkeys, chickens, politicians, high-schoolers, or humans (yes, high-schoolers and politicians don't count as humans here. They are practically a different species). It's central to business too. Because it's not the smartest or best who dominate. It's those with the highest status. Just like our bottom-of-the-nerd-totem-pole friend couldn't stick up for himself due to low status, the low-status business person will struggle to make the sale. And if you don't believe me, simply look at the 800-ton elephants in your industry. When you do, it will become blatantly clear that this law of the jungle is also a law of business.
