Because we often want to show off our knowledge.
Share some cool trick that can boost response.
Beat our chests about how great we are.
But here's the truth:
As many ways as there are to boost conversions... there are a million more ways to screw it up.
Which is one of the reasons to hire a copywriter.
Not only to make more money. But to be sure you don't shoot yourself in the foot. Like a story I recently heard about a list owner's doomed campaign.
During this ill-fated campaign, he lost HALF of his list to unsubscribes. A list that took years of sweat and tears to build.
And this wasn't a case of getting rid of low-quality leads. He had a good list. He simply abused them during this campaign. Sent them offers and messaging that were incongruent from what he ususally sent.
Which is a serious sin.
Obviously that's a horror story of epic proportions. Most of the time it won't be nearly that bad. But even if you don't see a drove of unsubscribes, poor copy can strangle your sales (and your brand image).
So that is what copywriters won't tell you. That in many ways, hiring a copywriter is like hiring a bodyguard. They're there to keep you safe.
